“The greatest things ever done on Earth have been done little by little.” William Jennings Bryan

What I’m about to show you is not a one-off event, but a lifelong process where you consistently reinvent yourself.
The key factor is that it is a conscious process; you are not at the mercy of external factors around you!
It starts with designing a Vision for Your Life ...
The first few times round, it’s important to leave no stone unturned, because it is only YOU who can put limits on your success. It’s all about expanding your current reality, your comfort zone, your context (whatever you like to call it).
“You don’t have to get it right, you just have to get it going”
Be willing to start from whereever you currently are. Wherever you are in your life right at this moment is largely a manifestation of all of your thoughts, feelings, beliefs and behaviours that you have ever had or performed up until this very moment.
So you can start to create the life of your dreams, simply by choosing to think, feel, believe and behave differently to what you have done up until this very moment.
In other words, think only the thoughts, feel only the feelings, believe only the beliefs and behave only the behaviours that will create the reality you want.
1) Define Who You Are
Look deep within yourself to reveal your true essence. You are not your job, and you are not your possessions. You are who you perpetually think and feel you are.
When completing this exercise be totally honest about whom you are right at this very moment. Describe yourself: Strengths, Weaknesses, Passions, Talents etc
2) Define Who You Want To Be
Time is simply your mind’s ability to sequence your experience. Your power lies not in the past or future, only in your present.
“The road to someday leads to a town called nowhere” Tony Robins
Expectation is key: If you desire health and fitness now you must state “I AM fit and healthy, even if all other evidence (right now) suggests otherwise.
What you are currently experiencing is simply what you have BEEN up until this very moment. Now is the time to change your BEING if you desire change (a design process).
The most important part in any design process is to be 100% clear on what outcome you want, before you proceed. So this step is about you designing the ‘Being’ who you want to become and then being this person now.
Who do you want to BE? Describe this person… write it down.
“Identity is Destiny”
Once you have written down who you are and who you want to be, you are already developing the mindset that will allow you to create whatever you want in your life.
Now is the time to start delving deeper into what your life purpose is and to develop a mission statement that truly reflects "Your Purpose" - the essence of your existence (the unification of all of your thoughts, beliefs, attitudes and behaviours) eg who you are, what you do and why you do it (for who).
"Your Purpose" is incredibly important as it is a culmination of all the values and feelings associated with the drive that provide the “inner fire” from which to motivate you to achieve Your Vision.
If you do not know your purpose now, then your purpose is to uncover your purpose:
1) Ask yourself: What makes you happy? what makes you laugh? what makes you excited? what makes you stay up all night in anticipation of the next day? Note often it’s not the things themselves but the values or feelings that these things give you.
2) Ask yourself: what would you do if you had all the time and money that you ever needed and then you had to do something for others? Just write whatever comes into your mind.
Once you have identified "Your Purpose", put into a purpose statement so that you can put it somewhere visible.
It is ok if you do not get 100% clarity on this all at once. Chances are if you have not considered what your life purpose is before that it will take a little bit of time. Keep working on it until you feel it is a true representation of who you really are.
You are now on your way to creating your ideal dream life through defining exactly what it is you want to Be, Do and Have.
YOU GET WHAT YOU FOCUS ON – ALWAYS!
This is your chance to wipe the slate clean and change your thoughts, feelings, beliefs, choices and results forever!
“He who looks outside dreams, he who looks inside awakens” Carl Jung
Identify Your Vision and put it into a Vision Statement. Be very ESP (exact, specific, precise) with the details of this and ensure it aligns with Your Purpose. Again it may take you time to get clarity on what your Vision Statement looks like. Just stay open to your intuition at all times and let go of any limiting or negative beliefs. Spend some time every day on your Vision Statement until it feels right and you are happy with it.
By now, you have delved deep into describing who you are, what your purpose is, and what it looks like when you live it (Your Vision).
Now you can begin to create the thoughts, feelings, beliefs and behaviours in alignment with WHO you want to become. Believe that you contain within you everything that you will ever require to achieve all of your goals and dreams.
The more frequently and intensely you think about something. the faster it can happen. Here's the process:
Step One: Affirm your desired goal as a desirable choice
Step Two: Visualise its successful achievement
Step Three: Feel the associated feelings / emotions
Your subconscious mind always seeks to manifest what you focus on the most. So the more regularly you affirm your goal, visualise yourself achieving the goal and feel the feelings associated with achieving your goal, the faster it will become a reality.
Positive Affirmations can help. These are merely written statements of your new belief, outcome or result written in a personal, positive and present tense manner as if the goal were already a reality.
YOU GET WHAT YOU FOCUS ON – ALWAYS!
Know what it is you are trying to achieve now (this can be a list if you have a linear mind or a mindmap / collage if you prefer more visual representations).
Look for ways of achieving what you want in life without doing so much. What is currently taking up your attention?
Consider the various roles you play in life – parent, spouse, business owner, employee etc. You may wish to focus on just one at a time but for full work / life synergy considering how each plays out in your whole life might deliver better results. Is there anything you can let go of? Be bold, aim to cut out at least 30%.
Perhaps the most important aspects of establishing a vision is to focus your attention on the feelings that achieving the vision will give you (because this is the main reason for you wanting to achieve the goal in the first place).
Goals are essentially a road map to your vision. Goals break the long term vision into short term stepping stones and give your thoughts something to focus on daily. They work best when you associate strong feelings with your goal achievement and represent a stretch (not readily available to you just yet)
An excellent way to maintain these feelings is to find some pictures or images of your goals and/or of people experiencing the feelings your goals will give you, create a collage with them, place it on your wall and view it at least twice daily.
What does your Vision feel like to you?
What would it feel like to achieve your goals?
The more you focus on what you want and feel the feelings associated with achieving your goals, the faster they are likely to come to you.
Caution – many fail here because:
1) They do not know what it looks or feels like (as if it already exists)
and / or
2) They have subconscious resistance (in the form of trapped feelings and emotions)
It is harder to crack a prejudice than an atom (EINSTEIN)
The best way to improve your current circumstances is to change your thinking (expand your reality) by associating with the people and the things that you want to become like or to hire a Coach.
“Modelling” provides you with a successful reference point from which to “copy” and insert into your own behaviour patterns. Rather than re-inventing the wheel, you are simply rewiring yourself, by studying someone who has already achieved what you want to achieve and then modelling their performance. Then ideally adding your talents and finer intricacies to make the overall performance even better.
Ask Yourself:
- What new information, people, experiences and vocabulary would you need to have that would allow you to expand your current reality?
Developing an Action Plan
(the doing part of the Vision process)
A goal achievement strategy is essentially the daily behaviours, obstacles, solutions, support and rewards that are necessary to achieve your goal.
For all areas of your life you will need to look at the most effective and the easiest possible route towards your goals in that area.
When you have created your vision, work back through the steps that you believe would have created that vision.
Begin to implement the behaviours necessary to create step one, step two … of the process.
Your imagination is your first signal of what might be in the future EINSTEIN
Remember you are expanding your comfort zone through remodelling your current self-image. So be patient with yourself and just trust “the process”.
- Order of Action Steps
- Potential Obstacles
- Solutions
- Support
- Reward
If you are not exactly clear on the steps, don’t worry - they will become clearer as you progress. Simply by staying in action, you engage “the process”.
It may appear to you that achieving all this requires a lot of planning, discipline and commitment. Just understand the results you will achieve will far outweigh any effort you may have to endure. Because most importantly, you are ensuring that your new life will be a lot better than the one you may be living right now. Security in life comes from growing & adapting, not in standing still!
“Our ideals resemble the stars, which illuminate the night. No one will ever be able to touch them. But the men who, like the sailors on the ocean, take them for guides, will undoubtedly reach their goal”. Carl Schurz
